One of R&R Cultivation’s core values is the concept of leaving the world a better place than we found it, and we’re constantly working toward that goal. From production to packaging, we’re always considering our impact on the environment and doing our best to minimize our carbon footprint. Here’s how we plan to continue doing our part to protect Minnesota’s natural beauty.
The Perks of Urban Farming
R&R founder Nick Robinson was initially drawn into the world of sustainable living and urban farming through his friend and Co-Founder, Lance Ramm. Urban farming is a sustainable practice which uses innovative production methods that maximize output within a compact physical area. Urban farmers are often able to utilize existing spaces, such as in our grow room in New Hope, MN. This means deforestation, erosion, and other traditional farming concerns generally aren’t an issue on urban farms.
At R&R Cultivation, we’ve always produced our gourmet, organic mushrooms using sustainable urban farming practices. Keeping sustainability in mind means we’re also able to offer high quality produce to local Twin Cities residents who may not otherwise have access to these nutritious foods.
2021: The Year of Compostable Packaging
We aren’t giving up on environmentally friendly innovations just because our day to day operations are sustainable. Instead, we’re committed to making ongoing changes to the way we do business to lower our carbon footprint.
One of the biggest impacts we’re working toward is having 100% compostable packaging. Right now, we’re offering a recyclable lid and label with a 100% compostable till. We are committed to and on track for having a 100% compostable container by the end of the year. This will allow us to continue selling our mushrooms at farmer’s markets, co-ops, and Lunds and Byerly’s stores throughout the metro area while minimizing the negative impact of plastic packaging.
Give our mushrooms a try (and check out our compostable packaging) by visiting any of these convenient Twin Cities locations, or visit our R&R Cultivation grow facility in New Hope!
